Our relationship with God is sustained by prayer.

‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.’

(Philippians 4:6)

It is our Father’s delight to hear the prayer of his children as we show our dependence on him. Prayer is not a fixed formula but a conversation. We can bring everything to God in prayer. Nothing is ‘off limits’, God is interested in every aspect of our lives.

Talking to God is only possible because Jesus has joined us to God. That is why we pray ‘in Jesus’ name’ or ‘through Jesus our Lord’.

Jesus encourages us to pray ‘our Father’ and the Bible speaks of the Holy Spirit encouraging us in our prayers.

Prayer is a precious gift of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Prayer is talking to God, but mostly it’s listening. It’s opening our hearts and letting him approach us.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.

Amen

It doesn’t matter where or how we pray, what matters is that we do ……

God hears you here….

Prayer can happen in a Church. It’s a great place to pray. In these ancient buildings, God has heard the prayers of people for thousands of years….some of them leaving important prayers for us to use. Church is a good place to gather thoughts, to quieten our mind and to listen, to the ‘still small voice’ of God.

….and here….

Outside is a wonderful place to pray. Finding the beauty of God in nature is something that pilgrims have been doing for hundreds of years.

....and here….

Work is a big deal, and takes up a lot of our day either inside or outside of the home. Finding God in the everyday things is a great gift.

O Lord, hear my prayer
O Lord, hear my prayer
When I call, answer me

O Lord, hear my prayer
O Lord, hear my prayer
Come and listen to me
